Nova Mines has commenced mining operations at Dompim Pepesa Mines, abbreviated DPEPS, its concession in the Western Region of Ghana. The commencement marks the company’s transition from exploration and resource development into production.
The milestone is a beginning. What an operator does in its first years of production, and how it accounts for it, is the record that matters. Nova Mines has published the commitments it intends to be held to, and they apply from the first day of production.
02The concession.
The Dompim Pepesa Mines concession serves as the foundation for Nova Mines’ growth, integration and long-term value creation within Ghana’s mineral-rich belt. Backed by supportive geology and a clear regulatory framework, the company unlocks resource potential through sustainable and responsible mining practices.
Dompim Pepesa came to the Duston Group with its own name, its own record and its own standing in the district. The group carries that record forward, which is why the concession keeps its name on the licence and in the community.
03Commitments carried from the first day.
The commitments below are structural, in that they are priced into the operating model.
- Rehabilitation as a production cost. Land rehabilitation, monitoring and water treatment are carried in the cost per ounce alongside fuel, labour and consumables that matures once revenue has stopped.
- One safety standard. Induction, competency assessment, task risk assessment and incident investigation are applied identically to employees and contractors. Stop-work authority is held by every person on site, and using it is a protected act.
- The host district first. Recruitment and procurement look first to the communities around the concession, with deliberate pathways for women and young people.
- Method published with outcome. Water results carry their sampling points and frequency. Land is reported as hectares returned against hectares disturbed. A number that cannot be checked does no work.
